Latest News of kate Winslet 2012-2013

June 7, 2005 – Kate
Winslet is nominated for Choice Movie Actress: Drama for “Finding
Neverland” .
June 1, 2005 – Aishwarya
Rai, former Miss World, who was also proclaimed by the world press
as the most beautiful woman in the world, has been relegated to
number nine in a list released by Harpers & Queen of today’s
50 most beautiful women.
Model and actress Padma Lakshmi, the fourth wife of Salman Rushdie,
has been adjudged as the 28th most beautiful woman. She and Rai
are the two Indians in the list.
In the first 10, Angelina Jolie tops the list, followed by Christy
Turlington, Queen Raina of Jordan, Sofia Coppola, Nigella Lawson,
Uma Thurman, Emmanuelle Beart, Kate Moss, Aishwarya Rai and Princess
Charlotte of Monaco is at number 10.
Among some other known beauties, Julie Christie is put at 23, Sophie
Dahl is at 16, Vanessa Redgrave is at 32 slot, Halle Berry is at
37, Jennifer Lopez at 39, Gwyneth Paltrow is placed at 41and Kate
Winslet at lowly 46.
The release of the list has re-ignited a debate on what is beauty.
John Keats definition ” Beauty is truth, truth beauty. That
is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know”, raised
some pretty ugly arguments.
The conclusion is that most of the beauties in the list share success.
They are touting that most lucrative of commodities, unsatisfied
desire. ” They are selling an impossible perfection that,
would slip away with the onset of the next style.”
Another argument is that with capitalism beauty has become a cashable
commodity. But a cynic said the fact that the finished image of
the ship-launching beauty of Helen Troy is lost shows that no one
is the most beautiful woman in the world.
Possibly Aishwarya Rai realises the truth of all this. From number
one beauty, she has slipped to number nine in the assessment, possibly
only because of the new style trends and new ways of assessing the
fairest of all.

Kate Winslet- Biography

Kate Elizabeth Winslet (born October 5, 1975) is a British actress most famous for her role in the movie Titanic.
Her career began on television, with an appearance in an episode of the BBC medical drama Casualty in 1989, followed by a co-starring role in the children’s science-fiction serial Dark Season two years later, also for the BBC. … Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born October 5, 1975 to stage actor Roger Winslet and stage actress Sally Bridges-Winslet. Having been born to a thespian family, Kate was exposed to the acting business at an early age.
She scored her first role in television commercials for Sugar Puffs children’s cereal where she danced with the Honey Monster. Around this same time, Kate started taking acting lessons- leading to her placement at the performing arts high school in Maidenhead. The next few years, she honed her skills taking bit parts in stage theatre and sitcoms.
At age 16, Winslet was cast in the British sci-fi series Dark Season. Her first big break came at age 18 with the role as an obsessive adolescent in Heavenly Creatures- a film based on the true story of two fantasy-gripped girls who commit a brutal murder. With this role, critics began to stand up and take notice. The following year, Kate Winslet auditioned for a role in Sense and Sensibility. The film’s star Emma Thompson was immediately impressed and Kate won the role, beating out more than a hundred others for the part of Marion Dashwood. Her portrayal won her a British Academy Award and her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. From there, Winslet went on to perform in such films as Jude (1996) and Hamlet (1996). International stardom came with the role of Rose Dewitt Bukater in 1997s blockbuster Titanic. Audiences the world over fell in love with actress and the role earned Kate Winslet another Academy nomination for Best Actress, thus making her the youngest actress to ever receive two Academy nominations.
After the unexpected attention she received from Titanic, Winslet retreated to the less conspicuous roles of independent artsy- films and doing voice work for animation including Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001) where her song “What If?” was released as a single in the UK (the song made it to the top of the charts in Ireland). After filming Holy Smoke and Quills (both 2000), Winslet married assistant director Jim Threapleton and had a baby girl- Mia Honey. A year later, they were divorced. In 2003, Winslet met her current husband, director Sam Mendes, and in December of that year, their son Joe Alfie was born. They presently live in a 14th –century manor in the English countryside. Kate Winslet Titanic

For Kate Winslet Titanic meant making it onto the Hollywood “A” list, though her salaries are still not on the level of Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie. Many would say her acting abilities have surpassed the top-paid actresses of today, though.
Prior to Titanic, Kate Winslet had five films under her belt and had been nominated for numerous awards, all by the age of 20. She won an Oscar and a SAG award for her performance in Sense and Sensibility and was nominated (and won) again for Titanic.
Kate Winslet Titanic salary was a fraction of the $2.5 million that Leonardo made for the film, yet Leo was not even nominated for his performance in the film. Not yet considered leading lady, Kate campaigned for the role after Gwyneth Paltrow & Claire Danes turned it down. Winslet sent notes to James Cameron saying things like “I am your Rose” until she was given an audition.
So, did Kate Winslet Titanic role earn her “A” list status? You bet! Kate was well suited to play Rose with her blond curls and her fuller figure, common for women in 1912. She played the aristocratic yet socially frustrated Rose DeWitt Budaker to the hilt. She was gorgeous in those period gowns, yet exhibited a wonderful sense of freedom and moxy when interacting with Jack and partying with the third class passengers.
Kate Winslet Titanic work meant a grueling 7-month long filming schedule, with much of it spent cold and wet. James Cameron was reported to be very demanding, and at one point after Kate had nearly drowned while filming a scene, Cameron merely looked at her and calmly said, “Let’s do it again.” Kate Winslet Titanic could be compared in a very small way to the real Titanic – wet, cold and physically exhausting. She also found it exhilarating to be working on the film.
A number of her suggestions were used in the film, including the idea to spit in Cal’s face rather than poke him with a hairpin as it was originally written. The line Rose says to Jack as they cling to the bow of the ship, “This is where we first met!” was written by Winslet. She and DiCaprio developed a friendship during the filming, keeping each other’s spirits up between takes of being submerged in cold water on various sets. The chemistry between the two worked and millions of fans fell in love with Jack and Rose over and over again.
Kate Winslet Titanic role earned her “A” list status alright, and she deserves to keep moving up the list and to be considered one of the finest actresses in film today. If there’s any doubt, check out any of her independent, smaller budget films such as Heavenly Creatures.
Kate Winslet Titanic role she plays a feisty, independent and headstrong young girl. In real life, Winslet is a feisty, independent and headstrong young woman who continues to seek out roles that mean something to her and her fans.

Kate Winslet slammed for promoting film

Kate Winslet slammed for promoting film
Kate Winslet is at the centre of an embarrassing row over drug legalisation after her name was used to endorse a campaign run by her boyfriend's uncle, Sir Richard Branson, it has been revealed.
The Oscar-winning actress appears in a 17-second YouTube clip alongside Sir Richard to promote 'Breaking the Taboo' - a documentary made by his son Sam which sets out the case for decriminalising drugs and supports a campaign of the same name.
The 37-year-old 'Titanic' star, who lives with Sir Richard's nephew Ned Rocknroll, does not appear in the documentary but features in the black-and-white promotional clip saying "I'm Kate Winslet and I'm breaking the taboo."
The film, which will be releasing next week, includes contributions from former US President Bill Clinton and is understood to argue that the current approach to drugs has failed and highlights countries where decriminalisation has been successful.
Asked to clarify which aspects of the campaign she supported, sources close to Winslet said that the actress was happy to promote the film and encourage debate, but was not calling for the legalisation of drugs.
Hours later, Winslet's name and photograph were removed from a list of supporters on the campaign's website.
The campaign is being run in conjunction with the film and suggests 'solutions' to the 'war on drugs', including proposals to 'fully legalise and regulate the drug market' and 'decriminalise all drugs'.
The YouTube clip remained on the Breaking the Taboo website on Friday night, with sources saying the actress's involvement 'starts and ends with gesture of support for the film'.
"There was a mistake, she shouldn't have been on there. We've had her taken off," the Daily Mail quoted a source as saying.
"She doesn't support all the things on that list, she supports the film.
"Kate got involved with the film because of her relationship with Sir Richard's nephew, Ned. Kate does not, and never has, used drugs," the source said.
Winslet's backing the film because she supports the film's attempt to open the debate on alternative and more effective ways to end the misery that the drug trade causes.'
"There is a very distinct feeling that any suggestion Kate supports the legalisation of drugs would have a very negative impact on her career," a film insider said.

Actress Kate Winslet and singer-songwriter Gary Barlow have been awarded with Britain's highest honour by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for their accomplishments in their respective fields.
The Oscar-winning beauty, who was awarded a CBE for services to drama, said she and the monarch had discussed the joys of motherhood when she collected her honour, Sky News reported.
The 37-year-old star said Her Majesty had congratulated her and asked how much she enjoyed acting. "I said yes I liked it but not as much as being a mother. She said: 'It is the best job'," Winslet said.
When her honour was announced in June, Winslet, who won a Best Actress Oscar in 2009 for her role in 'The Reader,' said: "I feel deeply proud to receive this, as a part of an ever-expanding community of British actors and film-makers who are fortunate enough to be able to contribute to an international industry.
"This makes me very proud to be a Brit," she said.
Take That star Barlow, 41, said he was "deeply proud" to be given his OBE.
Another award winner was Ryder Cup-winning golfer Darren Clarke, who was given an OBE for services to the sport.
The charismatic Northern Irishman, 44, said meeting the Queen was more nerve-racking than winning a major tournament.

Kate Elizabeth Winslet

Nickname

Corset Kate

Height

Mini Biography
Ask Kate Winslet what she liked about any of her characters, and the word "ballsy" is bound to pop up at least once. The British actress has made a point of eschewing straightforward pretty-girl parts in favor of more devilish damsels; as a result, she's built an eclectic resume; that runs the gamut from Shakespearean tragedy to modern-day mysticism and erotica.

Born into a family of thespians -- parents Roger Winslet and Sally Bridges-Winslet were both stage actors, maternal grandparents Oliver and Linda Bridges ran the Reading Repertory Theatre, and uncle Robert Bridges was a fixture in London's West End theatre district -- Kate came into her talent at an early age. She scored her first professional gig at 11, dancing opposite the Honey Monster in a commercial for a kids' cereal. She started acting lessons around the same time, which led to formal training at a performing arts high school. Over the next few years, she appeared on stage regularly and landed a few bit parts in sitcoms. Her first big break came at age 17, when she was cast as an obsessive adolescent in Heavenly Creatures (1994). The film, based on the true story of two fantasy-gripped girls who commit a brutal murder, received modest distribution but was roundly praised by critics.

Still a relative unknown, Winslet attended a cattle call audition the next year for Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility (1995). She made an immediate impression on the film's star, Emma Thompson, and beat out more than a hundred other hopefuls for the part of plucky Marianne Dashwood. Her efforts were rewarded with both a British Academy Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Winslet followed up with two more period pieces, playing the rebellious heroine in Jude (1996) and Ophelia in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1996).

The role that transformed Winslet from art house attraction to international star was Rose DeWitt Bukater, the passionate, rosy-cheeked aristocrat in James Cameron's Titanic (1997). Young girls the world over both idolized and identified with Winslet, swooning over all that face time opposite heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio and noting her refreshingly healthy, unemaciated physique. Winslet's performance also garnered a Best Actress nomination, making her the youngest actress to ever receive two Academy Award nominations.

After the swell of unexpected attention surrounding Titanic (1997), Winslet was eager to retreat into independent projects. Rumor has it that she turned down the lead roles in both Shakespeare in Love (1998) and Anna and the King (1999) in order to play adventurous soul searchers in Hideous Kinky (1998) and Holy Smoke (1999). The former cast her as a young single mother traveling through 1970s Morocco with her daughters in tow; the latter, as a zealous follower of a guru tricked into a "deprogramming" session in the Australian outback. The next year found her back in period dress as the Marquis de Sade's chambermaid and accomplice in Quills (2000). Kate holds the distinction of being the youngest actor ever honored with four Academy Award nominations (she received her fourth at age 29).

Off camera, Winslet is known for her mischievous pranks and familial devotion. She has two sisters, Anna Winslet and Beth Winslet (both actresses), and a brother, Joss.

In 1998, she married assistant director Jim Threapleton. They had a daughter, Mia Honey Threapleton, in October 2000. They divorced in 2001. She later married director Sam Mendes in 2003 and gave birth to their son, Joe Alfie Winslet-Mendes, later that year. After seven years of marriage, Kate announced that she and Sam amicably separated in February 2010. She was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her accomplishments in film and television.

As of 2009, she is only one of six performers who won a Golden Globe Award as Best Lead Actor/Actress in a Motion Picture Drama without being nominated for an Oscar for that same role (hers for Revolutionary Road (2008)). However, of those six performers, Winslet is the only one to be nominated and win an Academy Award for a leading role but for a different role, in a same year.

The producers of the The Reader (2008) tried to promote Winslet as Supporting Actress during the Oscar race 2009 in order to enhance her chances to get nominated twice (for Best Supporting Actress for The Reader (2008) and Best Lead Actress for her role in Revolutionary Road (2008)). The Academy overthrew this plan by nominating Winslet for Best Lead Actress for her performance in The Reader (2008), leaving aside her performance in Revolutionary Road (2008), although she won several other award nominations in both categories for the respective movies. According to Academy rules, an actor is eligible for only one nomination in a single category.

Personal Quotes
[talking about her screen debut in Heavenly Creatures (1994)]: "I was reading the script in the back of the car and I turned to my dad and yelled, 'I've GOT to get this!' And he replied, 'Then you will.' And I thought, 'Yep, that's it. I'm bloody well going to.' And that was it. I was so determined. It was something crucial to my life. I just so communicated with her, the story and their relationship. And when I found out, I just couldn't believe it. I was so happy, I cried. I remember I was working part-time at a deli at the time because I didn't have any money and was in the middle of making a sandwich when they phoned and said I'd got the job. I burst into tears and had to leave work because I couldn't control myself. It was absolutely brilliant."

In 2002, she had this to say about doing nude scenes: "I like exposing myself. There's not an awful lot that embarrasses me. I'm the kind of actress that absolutely believes in exposing myself."

I'd rather do theatre and British films than move to L.A. in hopes of getting small roles in American films.

It's very important for me to make the statement that I am English and just because I've done one really big film, it doesn't mean that I don't want to keep a finger in the fantastic British film industry and do films like this.

About her spur-of-the-moment marriage to Sam Mendes - "We hadn't been planning to do it but we thought it was rather a good idea, so we just did it."

After Titanic (1997) it would have been completely foolish for me to go and try and top that. I'm an English girl, I've always loved England, I've never felt the desire to leave it for any particular reason. And whilst I'm ambitious and care very much about what I do, I'm not competitive. I also don't want to act every day of my life. ... So it was important to me after Titanic (1997) to just remind myself of why it was that I was acting in the first place, which is of course because I love it.

Since I was 13 or 14, I've always felt older than I actually am.

I was on the tube just before Christmas. and this girl turned round to me and said, 'Are you Kate Winslet?'. And I said, 'Well, yes. I am actually'. And she said, 'And you're getting the tube?' And I said, 'Yes'. And she said, 'Don't you have a big car that drives you around?' And I said, 'No'. And she was absolutely stunned that I wasn't being driven round in some flash car all the time. It was ludicrous.

People say to me, 'You seem to have made this conscious decision to do independent films'. In reality, I haven't. After each movie, I always think, how different can I possibly be?... Is this going to challenge me, is this going to inspire me, and is this going to make me love my job more than I already do?

There is no way we are going to move out of England. Some might think that we want to live in Hollywood but that is not what we want at all. We will go and live in New York when it is necessary because of work but we prefer to be in England. I'm proud to be English - we both are. It's very important to me to retain that. I am an English girl and I love England. I have never felt the desire to leave. I am still ambitious and I will have to travel and live elsewhere because of that but England is always home.

On a scene from the movie Holy Smoke (1999),: "It was a difficult scene. When I read the script and I saw this scene was there, I laughed hysterically. I just couldn't believe it. When it came to shooting it, I had been sort of putting it off, and pretending it wasn't going to happen. And suddenly, I am there naked, peeing and thinking "Oh no!" It was really hard to do, but I've always loved the fact that it was there, and it's such a sort of turning point for the character I play in the movie that I've always felt sort of good, that it should be there."

On receiving her 4th Oscar nomination: "I can't believe it. I am ecstatic! This nomination means so much to me. To be remembered for a film that was released a while ago, I am unbelievably honoured and completely overwhelmed."

There's more to life than cheekbones.

Mum and dad were very much friends, and up to life. There was no anxiety for anything when I was growing up, they just taught me to be me.

Life is short, and it is here to be lived.

Loving someone is setting them free, letting them go.

I don't know if it's a skill, but I have been really lucky. I've always got on with every actor I've had to work opposite. I just always try and be as accepting of that person as I possibly can, and remain non-judgmental about their process, because every actor works in a different way.

I was a wayward child, very passionate and very determined. If I made up my mind to do something, there was no stopping me.

On going to the 1996 Oscars: Emma Thompson said to me 'Listen, it's honestly just like going to see a fantastic show', and actually it really is, because there are so many people to look at and all those fabulous frocks and it's really fascinating. But mum and dad and I did kind of amble through it a bit, a bit like the Beverly Hillbillies, getting out the car, my mum stepping on my dress and I'm going 'Mum, mum!'

I'm really proud of being English, because I learned my job in England, in English films with English actors. But I never dared dream of such a success... it's more than a dream. I realize it's extraordinary for a British actress. I feel good, but guilty at the same time, cause I wish I could share this emotion with all my British actors' friends... I play the main character in the most expensive and probably successful film, but that's not a good reason to leave England and become a superstar. Not at all.

It seems daft that I'm famous and I've not really got to grips with that.

On taking chances in Hollywood: If you're not still learning and growing as an actor, then you have no backbone and no career. - Interview, November 2000.

My skin still crawls if you call me a movie star. I get embarrassed. I think, don't be ridiculous. Maybe it's because I'm British. To me, Julia Roberts that's a movie star. But when people do call me one, that, I think, is an enormous compliment but, my God, is that a responsibility!

It feels unbelievable to be mentioned in the same breath as fellow actress Meryl Streep. It's inconceivable to me that this would even happen in my lifetime at all. It's such a dream. (About being nominated in the same category as superstar Meryl Streep)

Kate Winslet wants to empower women

Kate Winslet wants to empower women

Kate Winslet is proud to 'empower' women with her curvy figure.
The British star insists she doesn’t have the perfect body, but has learned to love how she looks.
Kate hopes that she can inspire other females to feel comfortable with their appearance.
'I look like the people that walk down the street. I don’t have perfect boobs, I don’t have zero cellulite — of course I don’t — and I’m curvy,' she told British newspaper The Sun. 'If that is something that makes women feel empowered in any way, that’s great.'
Kate, 36, famously filmed a topless scene for the 1997 blockbuster Titanic.
She has continued to strip off for other movie roles and hopes her relaxed attitude to nudity will help other less confident women.
'On a deeper, subconscious level, it’s one of the reasons why I’ve allowed my stupid self to be so naked on screen,' the mother-of-two explained. 'It’s partly because I do believe that it’s right for the character and it’s right for the story but it’s also knowing that not many people do that, actually — and not just that, but I’m a normal person.'
